Zden Hlinka operates at the intersection of software development and digital visual art. From the beginning of his creative work, he has utilized his own code as a tool for creating computer animations tightly synchronized with musical accompaniment. His roots lie in the demoscene, an independent subculture of creators who produce real-time audiovisual works in the form of programs that generate animation live, most notably as a key figure in the Satori group.
In 2000, he began to focus more on creating live video projections for public events. This led to the long-term development of his proprietary VJ software, Circulation, which he continues to use today.
For his projections, he uses his own video recordings featuring natural and industrial themes, finding their contrast fascinating. More recently, he has rekindled his enthusiasm for analog photography, which has expanded into experiments with other forgotten technologies such as VHS, Super 8, and trials with analog video mixers and other VJ software on 8-bit platforms.
His visual expression is typically densely layered, creating environments open to observer interpretation. He prefers not to remain in one style and thus gravitates toward continuous experimentation with visual tools, combining various approaches from deconstructivism to geometric minimalism, exploring glitch aesthetics, and integrating them with photography or 8-bit styles.
He has also experimented with other media like web-based net.art and created visual puzzles popular within the crypto community. In recent years, his primary focus has shifted to the commercial development of original video effects for motion graphics tools, which he subsequently utilizes in his music video work or creation of VJ loops.
